Protect your home from vandals!
If you receive a notice of foreclosure or an order from
the mortgage company to vacate the property, please contact your
attorney. It may be to your advantage to remain in your home to
protect it from vandals or other destruction.
Responsibility for Maintenance and Nuisances
Under municipal law, you may be fined and even
imprisoned for failure to maintain your property. Bankruptcy and
foreclosure do not relieve homeowners of the responsibility to
maintain their property. The property owner remains responsible
for nuisances and other code violations until ownership
transfers to someone else. Transfer of ownership generally
happens after a foreclosure sale and confirmation of sale, or a
recording of a deed by a new owner.
Predatory Lending
The best way to avoid a foreclosure is to stay clear of
predatory lending. The Toledo Housing Court has reserved videos
at local library branches which teach you how to recognize and
avoid predatory lending. For more information, click on the
reference videos link.
