Foreclosure Resources
Bankruptcy and foreclosure do not relieve the homeowner
of the responsibility to maintain the property. The property
owner is not relieved of the responsibility for code violations
until such time as the mortgage company has transferred
ownership of the property into their name. Transfer of ownership
can be through a confirmation of sale by the Sheriff’s
Department or a recording of a deed by a new owner.
If you receive a notice of foreclosure and receive an order
from the mortgage company to vacate the property, please contact
your attorney, it may be to your advantage to remain in the
property in order to protect it from vandalism or other
destruction.
To avoid a foreclosure, be careful of predatory lending. For
